Full ENS Integration on 3DNS is now live!

Adding Benefits to your Domain with Ethereum Name Service

We've just launched two exciting upgrades for your 3DNS domain: First, the ENS Gasless DNSSEC, allowing you to securely link your domain into the ENS ecosystem without gas fees. Second, our custom resolver on L2 @Optimism, making it cheaper and easier to manage your domain's records.

Let's look at how these integrations work and what it means for you:

How ENS and Gasless DNSSEC Interact

ENS and Gasless DNSSEC leverage CCIP Read protocol, a framework designed by Nick Johnson at ENS Labs. This protocol allows Ethereum smart contracts to accurately verify external data without the blockchain's direct involvement. Let's clarify this process:

  • ENS (Ethereum Name Service): Converts complex Ethereum addresses into human-readable names, simplifying access to the blockchain.
  • DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions): adds a layer of security to the DNS by using digital signatures and public key cryptography to verify the authenticity of the response to a domain name lookup.

As a protocol and framework, CCIP Read facilitates the integration of gasless DNSSEC's security benefits with ENS. It enables the verification of a domain's authenticity against its Ethereum address offchain. This ensures a secure link between traditional internet domains and the Ethereum blockchain.

Introducing 3DNS’s L2 Custom Resolver

We've written a custom resolver that operates on L2 but is fully accessible and manageable through a gateway from L1. The data of your domain can be read on L1 while being managed on L2. This means an improved domain management experience by making it more affordable and efficient to change records. You can now update your domain's records, like TXT records and content hashes, on L2 without the high costs associated with L1 gas fees.

The persistence of domain hijacking underscores the need for robust security measures. Blockchain technology, as exemplified by 3DNS, leads the charge against these threats. By decentralizing domain registration and management, 3DNS offers a fortified defense mechanism against traditional vulnerabilities.

Conclusion

The future of domain management is here, improved by ENS integration. While DNSSEC establishes a secure link with your domain into the ENS ecosystem, our custom resolver goes a step further by seamlessly incorporating the contracts to make managing your domain more cost-effective. With these latest enhancements, managing your domain has become easier, faster, and more economical than ever before.
