ENS and Gasless DNSSEC leverage CCIP Readprotocol, a framework designed by Nick Johnson at ENS Labs. This protocol allows Ethereum smart contracts to accurately verify external data without the blockchain’s direct involvement. Let’s clarify this process:

• ENS (Ethereum Name Service): Converts complex Ethereum addresses into human-readable names, simplifying access to the blockchain.
• DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions): adds a layer of security to the DNS by using digital signatures and public key cryptography to verify the authenticity of the response to a domain name lookup.

As a protocol and framework, CCIP Read facilitates the integration of gasless DNSSEC’s security benefits with ENS. It enables the verification of a domain’s authenticity against its Ethereum address offchain. This ensures a secure link between traditional internet domains and the Ethereum blockchain.

Introducing 3DNS’s L2 Custom Resolver

We’ve written a custom resolver that operates on L2 but is fully accessible and manageable through a gateway from L1. The data of your domain can be read on L1 while being managed on L2. This means an improved domain management experience by making it more affordable and efficient to change records. You can now update your domain’s records, like TXT records and content hashes, on L2 without the high costs associated with L1 gas fees.
